In our family, all dates related to the dynamic duo are close together...referral dates, China travel dates, birthday celebrations, and Forever Family days. Bryanna's FFD was 6 days ago and tomorrow (March the 5th) is the day we left for China to bring home Cassidy. Cassidy's FFD is next week on March 10th. I like the timing actually - one more link tying my beautiful little girls together.
Soon that peaceful interlude would be replaced by a little one who tossed and turned and cried and screamed through every night for the next 18 months. (Yeah, that's when I started drinking coffee.)
So it was six years ago (really? how on EARTH did that happen?) that the gerber baby, soon to be known as Cassidy Tian Ci Thompson came to us. Little did we know that the hours of sleeping peacefully by our side as the chaos of adoption paperwork swirled around her was the biggest head-fake known to the world.
Soon that peaceful interlude would be replaced by a little one who tossed and turned and cried and screamed through every night for the next 18 months. (Yeah, that's when I started drinking coffee.)
During that period, I truly believe Cassidy was fighting to find her place in this life... struggling to find peace in a life that up till then could only have seemed disruptive and loud and frightening to a little baby...searching desperately through all those dark hours for some light that she could grasp onto. And when she finally understood that her mom and sister and grandparents and aunt and uncle and the multitude of friends surrounding her were never going to let her go, then and only then could she finally rest. And blossom into the crazy, funny, energetic, sunshine of all our lives.
Sleep well, little one. You are forever home.

I love my sweet Cassidy! Can you believe how lucky we are in the family we've got?
Thanks, AM! I think had our travel date in my head instead of FFD, can you believe it??? Must be the multiple doses of sinus medications that I have been taking the last 3 days. hee hee
Now Cassidy is all set to celebrate tonight - which we WILL do anyway, because next week on the real day is the eve of our trip to Florida and all will be chaos.
Dazed in Mississauga...
Okay, so I didn't even play the song and I turned to mush - You should be a writer! :-)
Can't believe how the time has flown by - on both accounts! We are so honoured to know and love your little ladies. Love and miss you all. Enjoy Florida! We are off to Cuba(!- I know!!*grin*) on the 23rd.
lovely post --- look at that little baby. Julia and I have been watching her baby movies -- and we watched last night our Anhui reunion at your parents condo -- the Christmas one -- they were such babies and we thought they were so big at the time.
How was it that we were celebrating last year in Florida --- saw that video too -- I was interviewing Cass and Julia before a show and asking them why the day was special -- Cassidy got the answer that that's the day there were adopted and Julia said they were from Ding Dong!
Love the post Lianne it too brings tears to my eyes. I love looking back at the pics of the girls when they were babies.
Thanks as always for sharing such a great time in life.
Shauna and Maclean xo
Lianne,
Happy FFD number one and two! Nothing like a good cry for me on a Tuesday afternoon!
Have a great trip!
OK, I am CRYING here. Today is our Adoption Day with Nicole, so I'm on the edge already. Sheesh.
I haven't been on your blog for a few weeks, and having just had dinner with you on Sunday (where is mention of THAT monumentous occasion by the way???!!!), thought I'd check in on the adventures in Florida - where's the posts?? - you've been there for 24 hours now - come on!!
