Detour on the Road to Christmas

Ugh. Why do I do this to myself?

You see, a couple of posts ago I talked about the road to Christmas and how it is sometimes a long road but the kids make it worth it, and the joy and the light and the spirit comes. So this week I was zooming along that road...the kids' school Christmas concert was a couple of nights ago and was lovely...here are some fuzzy shots and a really brief clip of Cassidy on stage...

(B: on the far right..serious but happy)

(C: beige pants, brown topped reindeer, clapping)

...and on top of that fun night, I also finished nearly all the Christmas shopping, my house is decorated and looks good, work is done as of Monday & I'll be on vacation for 2 weeks and snow is on the way - woohoo, white Christmas!

So I decided to have a fun, lovely evening with the kids...I bought a new Christmas CD, planned for Bryanna's favourite dinner (perogies) and bought baking supplies so we could all bake cookies from a new recipe together.

screeeeeeeechhhh!!!!!!!

Hmm. Apparently there was a sign on my road to Christmas saying
STOP! Bridge out ahead!

Okay, perhaps I missed a route marker earlier in the day when one of the recipe ingredients couldn't be found and I substituted something that looked the same.

And, yeah, there may have been bright flashing warning lights a little later saying go back! go back! when I picked up the kids from daycare and daughter #1 was in a really bad mood over a math test today.

But I finally took notice when I caught sight of the emergency vehicles circling around my visions of sugarplums as I overheard my dyanmic duo discussing the kid (@$#!!!*&!) in the grade 1 class of daughter #2 class who carefully and deliberately and harshly laid out the "truth" about Santa Claus today.

And still I kept going...surely Christmas was just ahead if only I could push on a little farther.

*sigh* Two batches of cookies later (varying the recipe) - baked on my own because daughters were doing their own thing and not in the mood for music, lights or baking, and mom had lost it at least twice - I ended up with a platter of these things...what looks like mud patties with bits of crayons in them:

(To see what they are SUPPOSED to look like, see the blog here of Conversations With a Cupcake.)

However, I guess mine taste okay. Bryanna did eat 2.

Maybe tomorrow the bridge will be fixed.

I'd eat 'em - they look tasty to me! And I know your niece would too. As my pragmatic English hubby always says "you can't manufacture a good time" no matter how hard you try. But I'm glad you did try!

Those first-graders though - such little party poopers...

Oh, Wahhhh! I'm so sorry they didn't turn out perfectly.perfect.

Taste is what matters most, though. Sprinkle a bit of powdered suga or smear a touch of chocolate frosting atop and you're good to go!

THANKS for letting me know you baked. Keep trying! It will come!
